Company Profile - Environment Statement

Aluminium scrap is an integral part of the production of aluminium extrusion as is the recycling of the scrap. Ullrich Aluminium has been around long enough to know that producing scrap or too much scrap means a loss in production and profit. So we are pretty good at avoiding the production of more scrap than is humanly possible.

Environmental issues

But its not all about being smart and saving money, being a 100% New Zealand owned and operated company run by Kiwis we know all about New Zealand’s International CLEAN and GREEN Image and we want to help keep it that way.

Extruding aluminium uses lots of energy; producing waste aluminium is very costly so it’s in our own interest to be smart energy users.

Recycling aluminium is one thing we know about but did you know that recycling 1Kg of aluminium can save up to 6kg of bauxite (the primary product of aluminium), four kg of chemical products and 14 kWh of electricity and that a recycled aluminium can saves enough energy to run a television set for three hours?

Recycling aluminium requires only 5% of the energy and produces only 5% of the CO2 emissions as compared with primary production. Aluminium can be recycled indefinitely and is also the most cost- effective material to recycle.

Our quest to reduce waste and recycle product doesn’t stop there. We want to help our planet so we use untreated timber, paper and cardboard for packaging. All are recyclable. Within our own organization we reuse as much as we can over and over again as the goods are shipped around our 17 company destinations within New Zealand and encourage our clients to do so where practicable. Where this is not possible we ship the residue off to recycling plants on a regular basis.

In our offices we recycle used photocopier and printer cartridges by refilling. Used computer equipment is disposed of in the appropriate manner. General waste such as cans, bottles, paper is collected and recycled in conjunction with local city services. New Zealand is a beautiful country. As a responsible manufacturer our aim is to do as much as possible to help keep it that way.
